home accommodation contact / tariff welcome to the site of stockleigh lodge, bed and breakfast accommodation for those who want to relax in the peace and quiet of comfortable surroundings in the exmoor national park. stockleigh lodge is situated on the outskirts of the village of exford , which is the centre of the exmoor national park , one of only three remaining parts of great britain known for its peace and tranquillity. stockleigh lodge is over 110 years old and has been a bed and breakfast establishment for over thirty years. mike and myra ellicott the present hosts, have now been in residence for over 10 years and offer a warm welcome in comfortable surroundings at stockleigh lodge. the bed and breakfast accommodation is all centrally heated, with double glazing in the main letting bedrooms. the rooms are all tastefully decorated, have tea/coffee making facilities and all have ensuite bathrooms. small groups of up to twenty people can be catered for in the nine letting rooms, evening meals for groups can be arranged. there is a large guest sitting room, which offers you comfort to relax in after a day out in the exmoor national park. there are games, maps, books, a piano and television all for guests use. stockleigh lodge is surrounded by its own wooded grounds and is situated overlooking the village of exford and over to the moorland towards dunkery beacon. stockleigh lodge is the place to visit at any time of the year, in the winter with log fires and full central heating and in the summer the large garden and veranda at the front of stockleigh lodge to sit and read or just relax. we can also offer guests stabling for their own horses, we have our own purpose built wooden stable block, which is situated at the rear of the house, but in view of it. there are also paddocks, which can be used for turnout when the weather conditions permit. guests bringing their own horses on holiday can take advantage of the 480 kilometres of bridle paths to ride all day and everyday in the exmoor national park. maps can be borrowed, routes can all be discussed and organised for riders to enjoy either an hour in the saddle or a day, whichever the preference. the riding and walking on exmoor is exceptional, with minimal roadwork, and miles of either moor land or wooded river valleys to ride or walk. many groups take advantage of the wonderful area and friends get together to ride and walk together. riders and walkers who do not feel confident enough to venture out on the moor on their own can have an escort at a minimal charge. exmoor national park and surrounding areas exmoor has many small villages all having their own individual identity. lynton , lymouth , with its history of the flood in 1952, you drive along the coast up the famous countisbury hill, through the oare valley made famous by the novel, lorna doone, written by r d blackmore, to porlock and porlock wear. in years gone by a lifeboat was hauled from lynmouth up countisbury hill to porlock weir, because of the bad weather the lifeboat could not be launched from lynmouth. the boat was hauled by man and horse up over the 1 in 4 countisbury hill reaching a height of 1,423 feet and down over the 1 in 4 porlock hill, to rescue the crew from the ship the forrest hall. allerford , with its falconary, selworthy with its national trust preserved thatched houses, bossington has a pebble beach to walk on, horner with stunning river wooded walks and rides. dunster with the national trust castle, and famous yarn market and mill. exford being the centre of the national park. winsford, witheypool, dulverton, simonsbath are all well worth a visit in easy driving distance of stockleigh lodge, all within exmoor national park. a day away from exmoor national park, and we cannot think of a reason why you should, clovelly, boscastle and tintagel and the eden project are all within reach. national trust properties there are several national trust properties within easy reach of stockleigh lodge, the famous house of the chichester family, arlington court with its magnificent house and beautiful gardens as well as the carriage museum and carriage horse. knightshayes , nr tiverton is also well worth a visit with the house which has wonderful views looking out over tiverton town and surrounding area. holnicot estate and selworthy village with its thatched cottages. activities as well as riding and walking, mountain biking, fly fishing, sea fishing, sailing, canoeing, bird watching, red deer watching, golf at minehead are but a few of the activities available on the door step of stockleigh lodge, bed and breakfast accommodation in the exmoor national park. copyright © 2007 stockleigh lodge | all rights reserved | designed & hosted by pc webshop
